10 Simple Exercises for Older Adults

It is so important to keep active while we are being asked to stay at home or cocoon during this crisis. It is vital for our bodies as well as our minds. Although we may think it is easier to sit and watch television all day rather than exercising it is so simple to get active that you can even do it while sitting in your chair watching the latest episode of Coronation Street or the News.



The HSE are recommending that seniors get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week, muscle strengthening exercises 2 or more days a week and then breaking up periods of sitting with daily chores like cooking or housework.

We know it is not always possible to get out for a walk with the Irish weather, so we have put together a few exercises for you to do in your home. Ballet is a fantastic way to get fit for any age group, it helps stretch muscles, straighten bones and improves the memory. It is a fantastic form of exercise for older bodies as it is not as high impact as running or similar exercises so there is less chance of injury.
